Event Description:
Seeking to highlight the Slovenian-American experience in Cleveland, we join you to experience an inspiring and dynamic conversation as part of Cleveland Kurentovanje with a livestreamed discussion featuring the Consul General of Slovenia in Cleveland, Suzana Češarek, and former Ohio State Senator Kenny Yuko.
As a Slovenian-American with a career spanning over five decades as a political leader and union activist, Mr. Yuko has left an indelible mark on Ohio’s political landscape. Growing up in Euclid, Ohio, before moving to Lyndhurst, he attended Brush High School, Cuyahoga Community College, and Kent State University—experiences that helped shape his deep-rooted commitment to public service.
This conversation will offer a fascinating glimpse into Mr. Yuko’s life, from growing up in a partially Slovenian household to his journey in politics and his enduring ties to Cleveland’s Slovenian community. He will share personal stories, reflections on his legacy, and valuable life lessons aimed at inspiring the next generation. Known for his unwavering positivity and kindness, Yuko’s words promise to uplift and energize all who tune in.
Streaming live from the historic American Mutual Life Association (AMLA) Headquarters in Cleveland, the event will take place against the stunning backdrop of a Slovenian mural. As part of this presentation, AMLA President Tim Percic will also provide insight into the significant moments that unfolded in this very room, particularly those tied to Slovenia’s path to independence.
Join us for this unique opportunity to engage with a remarkable leader, celebrate Slovenian heritage, and take part in a conversation that honors both history and the future. Viewers can participate by submitting questions via Facebook and YouTube comments, making this an interactive and memorable experience for all.
