Pokop Pusta - The Closing Ceremony

Cleveland Kurentovanje concludes with the burning and burial of the effigy that lies within this coffin. The effigy is the personification of the Kurentovanje festival: it represents the entire event. In their last act, the Kurenti will remove their masks and place black streamers, tarnished by troubles, into the coffin to be burned. As this happens, control of the City of Cleveland is given back to the established government. After the burning, the ashes will later be symbolically committed to the Cuyahoga River. The persecution of winter ends, and we wait for spring.

Cleveland Kurentovanje will observe the Pokop Pusta tradition shortly after 5 PM at the end of the Festival.
