Cleveland Kurentovanje Children’s Village

The Children's Village, located in the downstairs hall of Slovenian National Home, is comprised of 2000 square feet of play and programing our youngest festival attendees.

Toddler through elementary-school aged youngsters will delight in of several different zones — fun for every interest and ability!

Programming

  • 11:30 AM - Story time with Maria Bruner (in English)

  • 1:30 PM - Sing-a-long with John Srsen (instruction is in English with some Slovenian songs)

Face Painting

In keeping with the theme of our Slovenian Mardi Gras festival, professional face painters will create "masks" for children. Free face painting will take place from 10AM until 2PM. This is a free activity, you can optionally provide a tip to the artist but are under no obligation to do so.

Play Zone

The Play Zone is comprised of Babica's (Granny's) Kitchen, Stara Ata's (Grandfather's) Workbench and more, providing youngsters with an opportunity for engaging pretend-play. Play food and tools are labeled with their Slovenian name for an extra element of engagement-based learning.

Block Zone

In this area, children will have all the blocks they need to create a beautiful city, taking inspiration from famed Slovenian architect Jože Plečnik's impact on Ljubljana.

Build a City Station

Cleveland is a city. Ljublana is a city. Cities look and function differently all over the world! Create your own city with wooden blocks, buildings and train tracks.

Craft Areas

Felt Bracelet with Bell: Add to the sound of the Kurent’s bells by crafting your very own felt bell bracelet. You’ll even be able to sew on your own button!

Cupcake holder flowers: Let’s bring on spring with these bright flowers made from cupcake holders

Bird Feeder craft: A perenial favorite, youngsters can create a bird feeder made out of pipe cleaners and cheerios. Hang them on a tree and welcome the birds back this spring!

Beaded Necklaces: No Mardi Gras celebration would be complete without a beaded necklace! String your own necklace and celebrate in style!

Coloring Stations

We will have an assortment of Kurentovanje, spring and Slovenian themed coloring stations for kids of all ages to enjoy.
